James Vincent McMorrow looks like a teddy bear. A tall, Irish, bearded teddy bear. I don’t know what the deal is with this three name trend folk singers have going on right now, (see: Benjamin Francis Leftwich and William Elliott Whitmore) but I can tell you that JVM is at the top of the list of Sarah Jessica Parker-ized folk.
His voice and teddy bear qualities make him reminiscent of Bon Iver. However, unlike Bon Iver, who does covers of Bjork songs, JVM covers Steve Winwood. What a badass. “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood is a hilariously epic ballad that belongs on all of our Guilty Pleasures playlists, but somehow JVM manages to cuddle it until it explodes into something that sounds like a meaningful folk lullaby. Check it out!
