I’ll be honest here and say I don’t listen to Dum Dum Girls hardly at all, not out of irreverence but out of ignorance. I’ve heard their name in passing for a while now, and for whatever reason, let it keep passing by. That phase ends now.

Their new song, “Lord Knows,” has the type of melancholy but somehow anthemic vocals that I love — especially in bands like My Morning Jacket and Beach House. While Dum Dum Girls haven’t elevated to the level of those two bands (commercially and personally), this track is a breath of fresh air that makes me want to delve deeper into their catalog. Hopefully the single is a sign of more good things to come.
