Frank Turner came to Hollywoodland last Thursday and rocked the El Rey like I’ve never seen anyone rock it before. Mostly because it was the first time I had been there. If you don’t know Turner, he’s a folk-punk singer-songwriter from England, who released the album England Keep My Bones earlier this year.
What I like most about him is that his slow songs cater to the folk genre that seems to have a “Kari magnet” attached to it, and then can be easily followed up by a mosh pit-inducing (yes, really) up-tempo song that caters toward “high school, wristband-wearing Kari.”
